My first stuffed animal was a cat named Sir Whiskerton III. Man, the adventures we'd get into, oh-ho!
He'd say, "Phil, let's steal a pie from that windowsill!" and I'd say, "Well, only if it's rhubarb!"
Yes sir, those were the days--- to be sure, my friends, to be sure.
Now he's an investment banker and I haven't heard from him in years.

SOME NOTES ON "GST MUGWUMP AND FRIENDS PLAY THE MUSIC OF SNIDGE":

I know better than to recommend this album for fans of P-Funk, but it's really about the partial realization of spontaneous group composition over an extended and highly repetitive form. Not unlike George Clinton at his best. You get two or more musicians together who are this close (it doesn't get much worse than brothers) and the accidental telepathy that comes out is really scary at times.

The other big goal of this album was to be as unambitious as possible. Which, it turns out, is a completely ambitious thing to do. But really now. If it sounds like we were just being lazy by leaving all the mistakes in and not mixing it well (not even doing any "My Many Smells" style post-production to contrive something approximating a unified concept), it's because we made the conscious effort not to. No second takes allowed. No rehearsals longer than five minutes before the day of recording. Practice wasn't necessary anyway, since it's mostly songs we wrote when we were in elementary school. Or at least when Phil was. Anyway, they're easy songs and we know them too well.

The result reads like it should be more interesting than it actually is. I don't know, the whole thing just seems inadequate to me somehow. Hence the low price and the inclusion of "We Built This Dog" (as and afterthought AND the opening track?). If nothing else, it's a funny album, or so I've been told. Still makes ME laugh, at least. Which is more than can be said for most of my recordings.
